snow day

Do you hear that?!
The wind is howling outside the house!
Lapping at the windows,
trying to get in.

“ I think he wants to chill us to the bone!”
My daughter exclaims.

The snow is coming down, in blinding gusts.
It’s almost inconceivable,
to salt the walkway,
or the stoop.

“No school today,” My children chimed.
In socked feet and fuzzy pajamas,
they dance
around our small living room.

“Pick out a movie.” I tell them.
I smile as I head for the kitchen,
to make cocoa
and breakfast.

And I think to myself,
“what a great snow day
this will be!”
