Written about one of my horses that I had to sell. A poem to say good bye.
We loved each other against our wills,
Neither of us believing that we could.
A struggle of tears that formed a bond of hearts,
And now the only tears that fall
Are for the thought of you not being here.
We were two of a kind...
Both teachers, both students,
Both stubborn and determined.
But we both fell in love
And feel the thorn of pain to say goodbye.

Through the battle against each other
We were united against all others.
Now finally, the reward–
So great that words are not enough
And could not explain the triumph in our eyes.
We’ve won.
A prize worth more than I had thought possible.
We won each other.
Together we proved them wrong.

Days... months... years of routine,
Training and trying,
Frustration and relief.
I look at you now, a subtle metamorphosis.
Can you see the change in me as well?
A lifetime of conversation can pass between us in a second.
You reach into me with your eyes, and I know that you love me.
My pride for you is overpowering.
You are a king of a horse,
A noble posture and princely stride.

You were steadfast in my turmoil.
A reassuring warmth to banish the cold deep inside.
Now there is no more anger between us.
I understood you, I was always meant to,
You just helped me to listen.
But it is time for you to go on, you have done all you could do for me.
Take a piece of me with you, because you gave me your trust.
I couldn’t have asked you for more.
I will miss you as much as you will me.
But go on to greatness my beauty...

And remember me.
