A little poem about a young boy and how to deal with abuse.
A sole tear running down his cheek, the boy turning his head towards the sky.
He remains innocent and pure, even as his eyes can't hold back the need to cry.

He stiffles his sobs, or they'd visit him again.
The demons that haunt him, called parents and friends.
They blamed him for noises, they blamed him for theft.
But no matter how much they blamed him, they did not allow that he left.

The young mind failed to comprehend just what was going on.
He ever so slowly convinced himself, that all he lived for now was gone.
And so the little boy, clad in only dirt and tears.
Snuck outside his tiny room, out from where he's lived his years.

He almost coughed as he drew breath, but silenced himself quick.
To not disturb the parents sleep, he's certain they would not be pleased.
A faint smile traced his lips as the boy realised, it soon would matter no more.
Ever so carefully, he move through the dark. Closing on his goal, the exit of the house.

The boy now bit his lip, hoping the key and handle won't be loud.
His fingers touch cool metal, the cold jarring far into his bones.
Forcing back a shiver he'd focus, tonight he must leave his home.
With a faint, tiny click, and a shaky old groan,
the door to freedom now open and all hinders are gone.

So the boy, filled with glee, rushes out to be free.
Not caring what the winter-filled nature might hold.
So the fate of the boy is forever untold.
Mayhap he was lucky, perhaps he got old.

But happy endings are rare, it is likely he froze.
With a smile upon his face, and darkened crystal-toes..
