Something I wrote in France over the summer. A man's entrance into Hell. |
Hell sucks you in The flames lick your feet Lured in by the fiery show You descend the infernal stairs. A glaze covering your eyes Blinds you from what should not be seen. The looming iron gates draw nearer As the heat intensifies Yet you feel cold Cold as ice So anxiously you run down Deeper into a burning pit From which no one leaves. Prodded by demons bearing scalding pitchforks You reach for the handle The gargantuan gate swings open And you smile Just smile. A roaring laugh you hear all around Then an intolerable burning you feel on your arm As you yell toward the heat You are branded Given a number, and forget who you were You look back and try to escape But are stabbed through the heart. It is wrenched out viciously And put into a jar. You touch your tender, seared arm. A line of damned prisoners All like you March down a dreary path That appears to have no end Chains are tied around your ankles As you are shoved into the line Becoming one of the masses. The fog from your eyes clears And the solemn reality of your new home is revealed; The sight would’ve killed you Had you not been dead And as you trod wearily down the beaten path A dark sign overhead reads WELCOME TO HELL. |
