In one moment crazy so long ago,
I fell in love with a beautiful girl.
Whenever a glance at me did she throw,
In heady love my heart did truly swirl.
My eyes followed her till the very end,
My feet traced every inch that she did walk.
Yet outwardly I did always pretend
As if at the name of love I did balk.
But my dream was one day truly shattered;
I saw her by the side of another.
In vain myself I had always flattered,
That my own love would also afflict her.
Too late I did this simple lesson learn:
If we don’t throw a ball it can’t return.
