The grey murky lake stretches towards the future
Becoming one with the distant sky, its shadows
Like whispers from the past, haunting these empty eyes.
Buildings holding people, beyond the smoky fog,
Hide behind the fear of sight, cradled in ourselves.
Clouds reach down from eternity to stroke the earth
And where the water and the sky meet to embrace,
A lone boat escapes through the pale curtain beyond,
A speck on the shallow expanse of consciousness.
Deep lakes, infinite skies, impossible to fit
In the small squares of our minds and our desires.
Maybe someday I will be able to escape
The strict confines of my being, and truly live.
Until then I inhabit the limits and fears,
That keep me from the grey and infinite future.
And I drive on, leaving the lake and sky behind.
Leaving that one lone boat, in the deep forever.
