Quiet is the sound I hear
so loud it rings in my ears, deafening
I concentrate, straining against the buzz
I close my eyes trying to single out one note of noise
sqeezing my eyes shut harder I now see stars
they begin to float and shoot around the insides of my eyelids
like so many fireflies on a warm June night
Now they begin to make sounds
a hushed shushing noise like walking through fresh snow
they speak to me, wanting me to listen to them
but I cannot understand them
Suddenly I hear music softly playing in the background
I am trying to figure out what it is
the fireflies leave unhappy with the new noise that has invaded their conversation
then I roll over and hit the snooze button
