To one who is waiting upon his wife
As she awaits her that final moment
When she would be free from the woe and strife
Of this life and quit her worldly raiment,
What word of solace can a friend offer?
What sane advice a mere mortal can give?
He only his hand can gently proffer
And hope in His grace she may ever live.
At such a time it is so hard to think
Of something to say to the one grieving.
But silent thoughts for the one ’bout to sink
Reach without fail the soul that is leaving.
Do not think that such prayers are no use.
Even though silent, they are quite diffuse.
