Loosely structured poem of my meandering thoughts as I lay next to my lover.
I watch tendrils of smoke rise off his cigarette
and spiral upwards across the room.
I swear I saw secrets escape and ascend with it,
as the smoke curls whispered away and vanished.
Today is a day for reckless abandon.

I place my hand back onto his belly,
rolling into his flesh gently.  He was smiling
the day we bought this rug under which we lay.
That is to say, I was smiling too.
Thus, a secret unspoken truth between the two of us:
years meld our experiences,
so we live through one another.

I fear if I look at the clock
time will cease to be stopped.  So far
it has ticked kindly for us all day.
Too many less-traveled options I could do
with my day…  And bills in a pile…
