Love can survive despite bumps in the road. A work in progress, comments appreciated. |
A fairytale… Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess and she met her knight in shining armor and they rode off on his faithful steed into the sunset and they rode through clouds of glory. But his armor lost its luster and began to rust, and the horse went lame and they had to shoot it and somewhere along the way they had children who then went off and found fair maidens and princes of their own. And the princess and her knight kind of stuck together out of habit and it got so that anything that went wrong they sort of would blame it on each other and they didn’t talk too much, at least not to each other and their fortune kind of fell away and the princess started eyeing up the occasional traveler who passed their way and the knight, he found himself a genie in a bottle. And for a while the knight was lost and the princess learned to survive on her own and she learned to forget his touch and her need for it and she learned to forget how to swim in his eyes and looked for other pools. But she realized that she was no longer a lovely young princess and tossed her tiara aside (actually she pawned it). And her knight became her nightmare and still they stayed together mainly out of habit. Then one day, the knight stood tall and brushed himself off and shined and oiled his armor and found a new trusty steed. But his princess was not the same, nor would she ever be. So though, he would slay a dragon, now and again, or march off to some campaign, when he returned home hoping for his ROYAL WELCOME: there was none. Then one day, they looked at each other and laughed. They sold the castle and he traded his armor and their trusty steed for a Harley. The road ahead might be winding and bumpy in spots, but they would ride it to its end, together, out of a little habit called LOVE. And if they didn’t live happily ever after… At least they lived.
