A deal gone bad what will happen to Angel's new found family?
Angel ran down the small path, swage on both sides of her. The smell burned her nose, making them water and mingle with the tears that were sliding down her face.
“This wasn’t suppose to happen, the exchange was support to be clean. No shooting.” She thought to her self. She staged a little clutching her side, gripping the wall for support, the thick redness of life spilling on to her shirt. The bullet wound was right under her right ribcage.
“Why” She muttered thinking back to this morning when her and Gabriel had been together, sitting at the table eating pancakes as John cooked up another batch.
“Come on,” Gabriel said with a smirk on his face, “eat one more,” Angel shook her head, making the dark blue color on top shake.
“I’m so full,” Angel said, her plump lips covered with syrup. Licking them off she pointed her fork at John, who was putting more golden brown pancakes on the plate at sat in the middle of the table. “John, these are too good, it’s not fair, I feel as if I’m going to die I’m so full.” John’s face got very tight, as he set the pan down. The girl froze, “I didn’t mean that.” She said quickly. “I’m sorry.” Gabriel cleared his throat as the tension in the room slowly abated. After a slight pause she looked up at Gabriel.
“What are we doing today?” She said quietly. Gabriel looked over at her for a moment, swallowing the bite that was still in his throat.
“We have a delivery,” he said popping another bit in his mouth, “We have to deliver a dozen packages to the bank. We’ll be going underground.”
She though for a moment, “Some kind of drug, were never allowed to know. But why are we going underground to the bank? Bad stuff happens there.” She looked over at Gabriel.
“Why to the bank?” She said picking another pancake off of the stack.
“Because they hired us.” He said getting up, his short slivery white hair falling in his face slightly. “Let’s get going, the delivery will start soon.” Angel walked over to the coat rack and grabbed her black coat the swiped down around her knees.
“K, I’m heading out,” Angel said as she headed out the door. “Meet you at 5th and 27th” There was a noise of approval from behind her, and she was out the door. The cool airs breeze brushing up against her face as she turned and started to run down the street, her short blue hair bouncing up and down on her head. She turned the corner and ran down a couple more blocks.
The houses slowly turned from houses to apartments which in turn slowly turned into large indusial buildings. Down a few more blocks before she came to alleyway that was surrounded by two large sky scrapers. Angel stopped and looked at the people. They were dressed in very neat suits, their cases swinging back and forth as they walked hast fully down the street, checking their watches.
She sighed as she watched all of the people, “busy with their lives, to busy to bother with what a street rat was doing.” This made Angel look down at her clothing under the long coat. The jeans that she wore had holes in both the knees and were fading fast. She had them for about two years. The shirt that she had gripped tightly to her skin, the shirt was becoming holey. She’d ask Gabriel for a new shirt as soon as this delivery was over.
Looking around she took a few steeps back and picked up the manhole cover and slid down into the sewers. The signs that were hung from the cement above showed which street she was under. The sign said 25th, which meant that she had a couple more blocks to go. Perfect just what she planned. A couple more streets down she looked up at the crossroads sign 5th and 27th-- perfect.
She sat down on the single folding chair that was placed in the corner. The sewage would usually make her nose burn but she had become use to it over the years of dealing. This practical part of town wasn’t that raunchy but some parts were really bad. So she sad there, for a few moments before she stood back up and looked over in the direction of where she had just come from, quite foot steeps were coming this way. After a few seconds Gabriel appeared, followed by John. Angel walked over to them.
“Did you get it?” She asked, as he pointed to the backpack that was over his shoulder. She held out a hand for it, he gave it to her and she slung hit over her shoulder. Gabriel looked at her for a moment.
“Angel, lets go get you a new outfit when were done here, okay?” He looked back at John and he nodded. “We should have enough and I think you should get something new to wear.”
“No way” She gasped excitedly, as he nodded. “Thank you” She said wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Come on, let’s finish this. Angel do you have your gun?” She nodded pulling back her coat to show the gun in a hidden pocket.
“Okay don’t shot unless, it’s supposed to be clean.” He said. They started off down a few block till they got to 91st street before they turned and went down a couple more.
A small building looked like it was up ahead, a shack sitting up against the side of the sewer wall. The three of them walked over and knocked three time. The door opened up and they walked in.
The inside was dark with small candles spread around the corners of the small enclosed room. Angel, John, and Gabriel walked to the back of the room before another door opened into what looked like an underground vault. The walls were unseen behind the cloud of black smoke that was filtering from the pipe of the man sitting behind the small table set in the middle.
“Did you bring it?” He said, the many layers of fat giggling making a squeaking sound that in turn bounced off the walls off the room.
Angel tired to ignore the sound as she nodded and pulled the backpack off of her shoulder and set it on the table. The man behind the table opened the zipper, opened it and looked around in the condense for a moment before he closed it.
“You’re missing one.” The fat guy said.
“This is all we were given, take it up with our boss.” Gabriel said, looking from the two guards that were stationed on both sides of the fat guy. Their arms reached into their shirts for the guns that everyone one in the room knew were hidden there.
“No I’m suppose to have one more here,” The fat guy said holding one of his hands because Angel had started to reach into her coat pocket but Gabriel’s arm was in the way making her stop half way. She paused, her eyes on all of the guys. She knew that her shot was good enough that she could get them all before their guns were pulled but if Gabriel wanted it clean, then it had to be clean.
Angel took a step back, as John and Gabriel stood in in the way of the bullets that were now flying accost the room as each guard shot off in the distance. The bullets bounched off each walls and showing Gabriel’s and John’s body with blood, they turned around for a moment.
“Run” They said together. Angel stood for a moment before she turned and started to run. She ran out the first door and pushed past the second guard that was pulling out a gun, as she sprinted out the second door. Bullets still being fired she started down sewer, the smell permeating her nose and mixing with the tears. She ran.
A sharp pain came from her side as the life started to spill out from her. She cried from the pain of losing Gabriel and John. Her feet carried her much further than 57th but to 20th before she paused and fell against the wall. More and more blood spilled out from her body.
“Gabriel” She sobbed, “John.” The though of them making pancakes and smiling at her getting a new shirt flashed in her eyes. “No, no don’t leave me!” She screamed though the tightness that clutched her throat. “I don’t want to be alone again. Not again.” More and more life spilled and ran down to the sewers making the sludge colored liquid change to a deep brown.
Her hand at her side, she dug into her flesh, the pain splintering her mind as she found the bullet that would be her death. In her hand she stared at the small medal thing that would end her. “How” She muttered, “How can such a small thing ruin everything.” More tears, more life. She looked accost the swage to see Gabriel and John standing there watching her suffer.
“Help me.” She muttered. Blinked. They were closer, both holding he close, arms wrapped around her frail body.
“Angel” Gabriel said, “Lets go get that shirt, now”
“And a new pair of pants” John muttered. She nodded as she followed the warmth of the two brothers that she had. Looking back her body lay frail. The life still spilling from her body.
“Don’t worry, it’s all over.” Gabriel’s voice said from the warmth. Closing her eyes she followed them into the warmth.
