Written for my husband while I was on a 4 mo. long business trip.

I never knew how dark the night could be without you
Or how deafening the silence would be
Without your heartbeat next to me.

I never knew how cold the morning sun could be
Until I awoke alone
So far away from home.

I never knew how much I’d miss your touch
Until you were too far away to hold
And I was left alone in the cold

I never knew how comforting your voice would be
After a long day at work
Or how much I’d look forward to all of your quirks

I never knew how much I could love you
Even though we are apart
You have my soul and you’ll always have my heart.
