Deals with a serious, unfortunately common, subject. A bit dark.

A Child Alone

A child alone, lay sleeping deep,
within warm night’s embrace,
No fears to make her wake, nor weep,
no care upon her face.
Then came a man, of dark intent,
through shadows crept, and there,
Child’s innocence from her he rent,
left heart bleak with despair.

From her he took what was not his,
ripped from her a treasure,
Her smothered cries, her pain filled hiss,
brought him to his pleasure.
He stole the laughter from her soul,
the brightness from her eyes,
Black deeds began to take their toll,
the child within her dies.

As time moves on, silence descends,
on lips once bowed with smiles,
With wounds unhealed, onward she wends,
through many years and miles.
She searches for a caring touch,
a kind or gentle word,
She gives what once, was honored much,
yet now means naught to her.

When comes the time, the darkness lifts,
an end at last to blight,
A healing kiss to seal deep rifts,
fill heart, and bring the light?
Will laughter, joy, and smile return,
her soul now freed take flight,
And through One’s magic touch she'll learn,
again to love the night?

A woman now lies sleeping deep,
within dark dream's embrace,
No fears to make her wake or weep,
no care upon her face.
