Congratulation Winners!

Round One - September 2008

The prompt:

Write a story around two characters:
Jennifer Dubois and Richard Nichols. In 2000 words or less, come up with an engaging, conflict-driven plot involving Jennifer and Richard. You decide who they are, what personalities they possess, whether they know each other intimately or meet as strangers, and what their story is. Either Jennifer (or Jen, Jenny, etc) or Richard (or Rich, Ricky, Dick, etc.) will be the POV/protagonist. You decide if the other is the antagonist, or if you want to bring in another character(s). But here’s the kicker: The story must be told in first person narrative!

Round Two - November 2008

The prompt:

Write a short story inspired by the following information:

Your two main characters are
Jimmy and Frankie. One of them has discovered that the other has been deceiving him.

You decide who these people are, what their relationship to each other is, and what the circumstances of the deception are. Either Jimmy or Frankie must be the story's POV, but you decide what narrative choice you want to use (first or third person). You are free to include sideline characters of your choice to contribute to the story, but it is not a requirement.

Here's the kicker!
*Right* One of your two main characters is a ten year old boy, and the other is a seventy year old man.

Your short story must have a minimum of 1500 words. There is no maximum word count for this round.

Round Three - February 2009

Round Three Prompt:

Write a short story inspired by the following information:

Andrea Dalton and Stuart Fitzgerald are strangers who are thrown together under extraordinary circumstances, and the experience is life-altering for one of them. You decide who are Andrea (or Andie, Dee Dee, etc.) and Stuart (or Stu, Fitz, etc.); what are their personalities, hang-ups, back stories, and what led them to their fateful meeting. The extraordinary circumstances don’t have to be cataclysmic; use your creative discretion when deciding what “life-altering” means in your story.

Either Andrea or Stuart must be the story’s POV (Point-Of-View narrator). Feel free to bring sideline characters into your story, but doing so is not a requirement.

Here's the kicker! *Right* Your story must be told in First Person Narrative.

Round Five - June - July 2009

Round Five Prompt:

Write a fictional short story inspired by this information:

The name of your protagonist and POV narrator is Elvis Presley. It could be his given name (What were his parents thinking?) or his nickname. It could be a stage name, username, chat room identity, or an alias. There is no limit on your creative interpretation of why he is called Elvis and what effect the name has had on him in his life. He could even be a she. Write a story about a secret he tries to keep.

Your story can be in any genre (drama, comedy, sci-fi, romantic, historical, etc.). You choose the narrative style – first, second or third person. Feel free to create other characters to round out your story, though doing so is not a requirement.

*Right* Here's the kicker! The fact that his name is Elvis Presley must contribute to a central conflict facing the POV.

The maximum word count for this round is 2500 words. Please include a word count with your entry.
