Short Little Story I Wrote Enjoy.
The cold wind breathed across my cheeks and caressed the back of my neck. My sweat chilled on my face making me uncomfortable. It was a windy day yet at times the heat became agonizing. Whether to wear a jacket or a t-shirt became the most complex and intricate process of thinking for the day. I chose the jacket it seemed to be the better choice. If it became to hot I would simply take it off then when it becomes too cold I will just be cold.
The train seemed to be taking forever. I waited outside on the platforms above ground. I have waited there for at least 10 minutes. It was so boring. From that boredom I stared into the building across from me, lost in my thoughts. Too many things rushed in my mind, too many to focus on. My eyes surveyed the area, tired and bored. I watched everyone past by as they walked to their spots waiting for this train. This one person struck my interest. She seemed as if she was looking for something or maybe she was just lost. She was a middle-aged white woman and seemed as if she was from another country. She walked back and forth across the platform. I watched her as she mumbled to herself. She stopped front of me and begin to speak.
“Ah…excuse me...” She seemed confused and hesitant. Her deep accent made it hard to completely understand what she saying but I watched her attentively.” Does this train…take to West 4th??” I watched her thinking to myself. “West 4th, this train to West 4th” For some reason every time someone asks me about the stops on the train my mind goes blank.
“Umm…Yea it does.” I hesitated unsure of my self.
“This train.” She quickly answered. She still seemed confused.
“Yes, this train takes you there.” She looked at me and began to speak in another language repeating yes over and over. I looked at her as she walks back and forth. My mind wandered until I didn’t know what was really going on. The loud train noises snapped me out my daydream. The train finally arrived. She walked toward the door I was standing in front of. The doors slowly opened and all the passengers walked steadily out of the train all in one motion. I walked in and looked around to see all of the seats taken. I stood in front of door and the woman stood next to me.
“This train??” she drifted between both English and whatever she was speaking. I just stood for the entire trip; my stop was the last stop so I waited in my spot. This train ride was extremely awkward. She stood there staring into my face. I would occasionally look in her direction to see her staring in my face. I would quickly avert my eyes. When the train approached West 4th she smiled at me and waved as she left the train. I softly smiled as she left. I stayed on the train and just relaxed.
When I arrived home it was a relief. I threw all of my belongings on to the floor and jumped on the couch. I stretched my arms and turned on the T.V and flipped through some channels. My boredom ceased as I relaxed in my home. I turned to news to try to see a glimpse of weather for tomorrow.
“Breaking News. 15 people were found dead in the most grisly murder of our time. At small store on the corner of West 4th.” My heart skipped a beat. That lady got off there. I hoped she was ok. “The murder ripped through 3 storeowners and 12 civilians. Some witnesses has identified as a middle aged woman on her way to visit her family staying here in New York” I watched the T.V in amazement. “The killer left a chilling message in blood on the wall in the store.” The camera man moved the camera to the message in the background barely eligible until he zoomed in. I stared in shock. “Thank You Stranger.”
