CHAPTER 1 ONLY FOR YOU

JUDAS: Judas was running about cleaning the house. Olivia and Christopher were due at the castle at 10:30, and he wanted to be ready for her. He couldn’t wait to see her face again, this time not charred by blackened fire. He couldn’t wait to see her shining eyes dawn in comprehension at his fate, and her hell-like eternity. He couldn’t wait to make the innocent light leave her eyes.

LUCIFER: Lucifer was watching Judas from the security system set up in the castle. He could overlook everything that happened in his castle, the grounds, and all the souls under his domain. On the left side of the video wall was the loom of souls that sold themselves for trite human pleasures. Each was sitting in their confined space, dwelling in their mistake. Lucifer had lost interest in this side of the wall in 1974. Not many people had sold their souls and none of the ones that had since seventy-four were unique. He paid attention to the center and the right sides of the wall, which displayed Judas (center) and his prized possession on the right. This soul on the right was currently being honed for the Apocalypse, his security resided on the right because he was Lucifer’s right hand man. Joseph.
How ironic, Lucifer mused, that the man who adopted the son of God was really the soul that would become the anti-Christ when the time came. Joseph was Lucifer’s single jewel, a pearl in a spit of sand, the reason behind the entire operation.

OLIVIA: Olivia was confused. First of all, she woke in a king size bed adorned with plush pillows and thick, mink blankets. The blankets and pillows were a deep, midnight blue. She felt a soft thumping below her ear. She looked up and noticed an angel sleeping under her. The angel had dark brown hair, pale skin, and excruciatingly long eyelashes. He was breathing evenly through his straight nose and Olivia could feel the rise and fall of his chest with each breath. Determined not to wake the angel next to her, Olivia slid out of the king size bed and pushed her way through the door on the other side of the vast room. She was going to find someone to tell her where she was and how she got there.

CHRISTOPHER: Christopher work with a wonderful scent filling his lungs. He smiled and took a deep breath. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He was laying in a large bed that had blue blankets on them. He himself was in a pair of white boxers and a white T-shirt. He couldn’t remember ever wearing this outfit to bed previously. He couldn’t remember what he did the day before. He couldn’t remember where he was. He couldn’t remember his own name.

JUDAS: Judas looked up when the clock struck ten o’clock and smiled. Soon, he assured his restless mind.

LUCIFER: Lucifer had never seen Judas so excited for the arrival of a new guest. Lucifer knew their past, Olivia’s and Judas’ but he didn’t expect Judas to remember. Olivia had clearly forgotten. The way she died was proof of that. Lucifer usually made sure that order was kept in the castle, but he knew that Judas would evade that.

JUDAS:  (FLASHBACK in Jpov) The men had insisted we go out to the local bar that night. I remember this day perfectly, every moment of it was engrained in my mind with a most acute clarity. I hadn’t seen anything properly before that night.
James, Peter, and John were the keepers that evening at the bar. John had nicked the purse and James and Peter were not going to purchase entertainment. After some time John met a young woman and he began to tell her stories about Jesus and his teachings. James and Peter were occupied with each other, so I decided I needed to take the purse. I did. At first, as I was holding the money, I was just looking around; reveling in the sense of freedom that holding money can create. I was nervous at the same time, however, that John would tire of the woman like the other times and notice the money was gone before I had a chance to spend it. Suddenly there was screaming and yelping coming from the center of the bar. I turned my attention in that direction, curious about the sudden outburst. I saw a trio of dancers swaying like cobras in front of mice. All the men were entranced by at least one of the dancers. The dancer to thee right had vibrant hair like fire; the middle one had light hair. The one on the left had dark hair and expressive eyes. All the women looked to be in their thirties, too old to marry, but not too old to pay for. I was captured by the one on the left all the same, and I felt my body react to her dance. So like a cobra, I thought.
I hardly noticed the young girl skulking behind the woman, and would probably have not noticed her if she didn’t have an acute similarity to the woman she hid behind. This girl had thick, dark, curled hair that fell to the middle of her back. Her skin was caramel and soft. Her eyes were down in embarrassment as she examined the women in front of her. She must have felt my gaze linger on her because as suddenly as a cobra strike, her eyes met mine. In that instant I saw everything with frightening clarity. I could see the woman in the girl’s eyes, and I understood her embarrassment. The eyes were as green as a tiger’s in the night and they pierced like the howl of a wolf. I knew from that moment on that my life would never be the same. And it wasn’t.

OLIVIA: The castle was enormous. Every turn led Olivia down a longer hallway with more rooms on either side and each room was larger than the last. She couldn’t think of where the castle might end. Olivia hadn’t met up with anyone since she left the room with the sleeping angel, and by the time she decided to return, she had completely forgotten how to get back. So instead, she just continued to wander.

JUDAS:  As Judas finished cleaning the vast room, he couldn’t help but think of his beloved in a lover’s embrace. He had seen her in similar positions twice before the day before and all three times had been earth shattering for him. The first time he saw her it caught him off guard to see her crying. If he hadn’t been in love with her before then, he most certainly was in love with her after that. The second time it killed him. And the third time it destroyed him completely. If he ever thought they could be together again, he had been mistaken. Judas felt fire consume his veins, and venom coated his mouth at the thought of her lovers. He couldn’t break them like they had broken him, so he would have to resign to breaking her. He promised himself that she would pay for her crimes. Soon.
