What a stinking life she leads...
Sheer Misery

What a stinking life I lead,
I don’t think that I can proceed.
All my husband does is drink,
He’s driven me right to the brink!

I try so hard to give him joy,
He tells me that I just annoy.
No matter what I try to do,
He finds a way to misconstrue.

He used to be so strong and kind,
At work he was a mastermind;
But when he reached a certain age,
Anger came along with rage.

He never does confide in me,
He sits and drinks in agony;
I cannot go to town and back,
I cannot leave my maniac!

It’s getting worse, the more he drinks,
His eyes are glazed, he hardly blinks.
He rants and raves and screams all day;
It is a rather sad display.

I try so hard to grin and bear it…
Try so hard to find some merit…
But each day grows worse and worse,
We cannot talk—we can’t converse.

I don’t know that I can survive!
Though wanting to I can’t deprive
His liquor—he might do me harm.
I’m far too weak to cause alarm…

I found my husband dead today,
He’s left my life in disarray.
He took the easy road of death,
The stench of liquor on his breath!

He’s dead…I’ll never know the cause,
I must move on, I cannot pause;
God help me in my time of need—
I beg of You to intercede…

I’ll try and start to live my life
For me, and not a drunkards wife;
The world is there for me to choose…
Ahhh to live—without the booze!
