short story/poem of an old piano's destiny |
Ballade Of Ye Olde Piano Years ago I bought an old piano sadly in need of repair Now people say that one man's junk may be anothers' treasure So I paid the man what he thought was fair... I really didn't know what I would do with this old relic its hot pink case and battered keys a terrible disgrace... I took it home through streets of town on the bed of my old pickup called "Dan The Piano Man" to come and take a look.... He ran his fingers o're the keys and pressed down on a chord then smiled at me and said; "Your piano has a heart" All it needs is loving care and someone just like you to make its strings come alive and its spirit too... He cracked the tuning fork across his knee began to tighten on the strings tho the masters' hand was gentle she groaned beneath the strain Then in sweet surrender her music filled my room t'was like a band of angels singing all in tune As I watched and listened, tears welled up in my eyes for precious gifts, sometimes come disguised And I'll be forever grateful to the man who gave her life... you see...Dan 'The Piano Man' was blind. Now the sunlight danced across his face the magic of that moment, can never be erased and this Olde Piano will never be the same... Dedicated to my friend; Dan The Piano Man |
