Another old poem...this one dedicated to a girl I knew with abusive parents.
Original © 1998

This cage that holds me,

These ties that bind me,

All lock me up to contain.

Slaps on the face

Of an innocent girl.

Cries in the dark

That are never heard.

Pain won’t be released

By tears alone,

That just makes it worse.

Angry yells,

Screams in the night,

All of the these make me wonder,

What am I fighting for?

Try as I may,

I can’t heal the damage done,

Yet I can try to doctor the scars

And hope tears will

Provide the medicine for change.

But what am I fighting for?
