Memories of a Fall
                            History

You turned that witchy smile on me
            unbuttoning my coat
I haven't seen your face in years
but I still got your tear stained note

I played your battered old guitar
you tried to read my face
and everytime I think of you
                it's always in that place

                Dylan played in the background
            there were candles everywhere
while Roxie danced in the kitchen
my fingers were in your hair

                the candles sent soft shadows
            like pictures on your wall
a well worn rug beneath our feet
                stretched halfway down the hall

you took me there, I brought you back
we made love til the dawn
the sweetest lips I ever kissed
were once here, now they're gone

so here I sit so patiently
my eyes too blind to see
if loving you was what it took
to learn how to love me
