A Free Form Poem about Beanballs
Ah, pelota* bright
Red and white
Screams by into his head,
Possibly leaving him dead

Five and a quarter ounces
Of horsehide artillery humming
A radio ball, odd, he heard it
But never saw it coming

Awful thunk as it hit its mark
Left him lying cold as a stone
Quiet overtakes the crowd
Quite a plunk inside the park

Millions invested lying very still
As cold as the cash requested
Played by men for the dollar bill
A game in which they are tested

Chin music the norm
Dance away from the plate
Dared to perform
The batter is late

To the ground he falls
As dead as the day
The pelota has struck
The price he did pay
As next to him the pelota lay
Bright, red and white

* Slang term for a baseball, taken from the game of Jai Alai and applied by Bob Prince the braodcaster for the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club.
