Tohru plans a surprise. My cousins and I make a walk-on appearance in this one. |
Okay, I know I have other stories I should be working on but, this was a rush job (Because I'm such a freakin' lazy procrastinator, like Shigure!) and the only thing I could concentrate on right now. I have had Fruits Basket on the brain lately, besides I went to the Zoo with my own cousins not too long ago and this story has just been begging to be written ever since! My cousins and I were bouncing around thoughts about what the Furuba group would do if they went to the Zoo and well... Yeah. We all figured some of the things that happen in here. Like Ayame fainting over an "unsightly" display by the reptiles. (I actually saw a display like that at the Zoo!) Besides, I'm the snake so yeah, I'm Ayame. Seriously. I have another cousin who is the dog (Shigure, like you don't know that!) and when she and I get together we act a LOT like those two. Not quite so... um... yeah... but just a couple of fun-loving fruit-loops! What's even crazier is that my younger sister is the rat (Yuki, Ayame's younger brother Duh!) and we enjoy giving her a hard time. She and I also seem to have issues getting along, like Ayame and Yuki. Well anyway, enough of my jibber jabber, Enjoy the story. (I know I probably could have done better. But like I said I was in a hurry.) I hope I spaced it out enough. Oh, one more thing, Just so you know nobody trasforms at all in this fiction. I mean, they have to at least have at a couple of days where they're lucky enough to avoid it right? Anyhow I hope you have as fun reading this as I did writing it. Again, Sorry about the Blah, Blah, Blah. I talk too much. Sorry. ENJOY!!! TigerFan, Fruits Basket: A trip to the Zoo By: TigerFan It was just a typical Saturday morning at Shigure Sohma’s house Shigure sat at the table reading the morning paper, the comics to precise; And Tohru was fixing breakfast while Kyo and Yuki were having their morning argument. Today was special though, Tohru had a surprise planned. Chapter I: Breakfast time! “You stupid rat! You ate all the lucky charms!” Kyo snapped at Yuki as he discovered that the last of the cold cereal was gone. “What does it matter to you? You always just eat the marshmallows anyway.” Yuki said as he went about getting some orange juice out of the refrigerator. “I do not! I eat the marshmallows and the cereal!” Kyo snapped. “Come on guys it’s okay, I’ll get some cereal at the store later.” Tohru said nervously, trying to keep them from fighting. “I’ll just go get some myself.” Kyo said and started for the door. “Now Kyo, Tohru is working so hard to fix us delicious breakfast; you wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings would you?” Shigure said, walking over to Tohru. “So Tohru, what wonderful dish are you making this morning?” He asked as Yuki and Kyo eyed him suspiciously. “Well, I’m making French toast. I’ve already got some powdered sugar here for topping but there was no syrup so, I’m also making some homemade syrup to go with it.” Tohru said as she stirred the syrup mixture. “Oh, that sounds heavenly Tohru! You see, she’s slaving over a hot stove and all you two can think about is cold cereal. Shame on you.” Shigure said, obviously trying to give them a hard time. “Oh, shut up ya dumb dog.” Kyo snapped as he sat down at the table. “I’m sorry miss Honda.” Yuki said, taking a seat at the table too. “Oh, it’s okay, really. If you don’t want the French toast I can fix something else, what would you like?” Tohru said, turning to face them; and just as she did her syrup started to boil over. “Oh, no!” Tohru exclaimed as she quickly got the syrup under control. “I’d love to try your French toast miss Honda.” Yuki said with an amused look on his face as he watched her handle the syrup. “Yeah, I’ll have some too.” Kyo said, also watching Tohru fumble with the syrup. “Oh, did I tell you that I planned a surprise for today?” Tohru asked as she flipped some toast. “Why no Tohru, You didn’t. What’s your surprise? Shigure asked. “Yes, do you have in mind miss Honda?” Yuki inquired. “Yeah, what’s the deal?” Kyo asked. Before Tohru could answer the was a knock on the front door. “I wonder who it is? Well I’ll just go get the door and find out.” Shigure said as he walked to the door. Shigure opened the front door and saw Ayame standing there waiting for an answer to his knock.“Aya! What a pleasant surprise what are you doing here?” Shigure asked, unable to hide the joy in his voice at seeing his cousin at the door. “Well Guré, Tohru called and invited me over yesterday, she said she had some sort of special surprise for today; so naturally I had to come.” Ayame explained. “Ah, Aya that’s nice that Tohru invited you; but, you haven’t forgotten about me have you?” Shigure asked dramatically. “Oh, no! Of course not Guré! How could I?” Ayame replied in an equally dramatic tone. They continued the drama as they walked into the house. When Yuki and Kyo heard Ayame’s voice they both knew trouble was brewing; When Shigure and Ayame walked into the room they both thought they’d be sick. “Would you two shut up! You sound like you’re gay or something!” Kyo yelled at them. “I think they are.” Yuki said with a disgusted look on his face. “Now, now, dear Yuki; If I were gay would I do this?” Ayame asked as he made his way towards Tohru. “Don’t you dare!” Yuki said, knowing full well what his brother was going to do. “You do it and I’ll skin you alive snake!” Kyo threatened. Tohru just stood there, not sure what to do; then out of nowhere just grabbed the plate she had put the French toast on. “Uh, French toast Ayame?” She asked nervously. “Oh why thank you Tohru, I’d love to join you for breakfast. After all, I haven’t any myself yet.” Ayame said as he took her hand and kissed it. “You are an angel.” And with that Ayame sat down at the table next to Shigure. “She didn’t invite you to breakfast Ayame.” Yuki said coldly. “Yuki, of course Aya can have breakfast with us.” Shigure said in Ayame’s defense. “It’s okay if he wants to, I don’t mind. There’s plenty for everyone.” Tohru added. Chapter II: Off we go to the Zoo Everyone finished their breakfast and Tohru began cleaning up the dishes. “Ah, Just as I said; that was heavenly Tohru, you are a wonder in the kitchen.” Shigure said as he handed his plate to Tohru. “Why, thank you Shigure.” she said she took his plate. “Yes, it was delicious, thank you very much miss Honda.” Yuki said. “Yeah, it was pretty good, thanks.” “Yes, the French toast you prepared was most wonderful Tohru; and the homemade syrup… ah, superb.” “Well I’m glad you all liked it.” Tohru said as she washed dishes. “So Tohru, what’s the surprise you mentioned?” Shigure asked curiously. “Well, I thought it would be nice if we could go on a little adventure, so I put together some extra money and now have enough to take us all to the Zoo!” Tohru exclaimed happily. “Tohru that’s a wonderful idea!” Shigure said, secretly grateful for the excuse to avoid his editor, who was going to come over that day. “Are you sure miss Honda? It is your money and shouldn’t spend it all on us if you don’t want to.” “Of course Yuki, I don’t mind at all. I think it would be fun. I also invited Hatori to come along too. I couldn’t get Hatsuharu, Momiji, Hiro, Kisa, or Ritsu to come though, they all said they didn’t want to. Kagura just said she had other plans.” Tohru said. “Aya did you hear that? Hari is coming too! This is going to be fun.” Shigure said excitedly. “Yes, it certainly will Guré, we’ll have such fun giving Hari a hard time!” Ayame agreed in excitement. It wasn’t long before Hatori arrived, he knocked on Shigure’s front door. Shigure answered. “Oh, Hari you’re here! Tohru! Hari’s here!” Shigure called as he and Hatori walked into the room. When Ayame saw Hatori he immediately greeted his cousin, excited that their “Mabudachi Trio” Or “Bad Company Trio” was altogether at the moment. “Hatori I’m glad you wanted to come with us.” Tohru said as Hatori stood there dealing with Ayame and Shigure. “Well I thought there should be at least one responsible adult present; besides, someone needs to keep these two out of trouble.” Hatori said, motioning towards Ayame and Shigure. “Oh nonsense Hari, we’re perfectly capable of keeping out of trouble.” Shigure said in his and Ayame’s defense. Ayame nodded in agreement. “Somehow, I highly doubt that.” Hatori replied. “Well, are we gonna go or what?” Kyo asked. “Yes, now that Hatori’s here we can go; Oh! I almost forgot!” Tohru dashed into the kitchen for a few moments, then came back holding a basket. “I made a picnic lunch for us to eat while we’re there.” She said holding the basket. “That sounds nice miss Honda, Thank you.” Yuki said as he grabbed his jacket. “Indeed, I can’t wait to try it.” Ayame said as he and Shigure escorted Hatori to the door. “I’m going to drive.” Hatori said as he walked out the door. Chapter III: Lunch with the ducks They all arrived at the Zoo and paid entrance, so began the day’s adventure. “Hey look, ducks! They’re so cute!” Tohru said as they walked by the small lake where the ducks were swimming. “They’re okay, hey when are we gonna eat? I’m starving.” Kyo grumbled as his stomach rumbled. “Well I guess we set up a spot in grass over there.” Tohru said pointing to grassy area next to the pond, which had trees and picnic tables. “That sounds like a wonderful idea Tohru, let’s sit in the grass under that tree.” Shigure said as he walked to and sat beneath a large tree. “That works I suppose.” Yuki joined Shigure under the tree. Everyone else sat under the tree and Tohru started to unpack their lunch, just then they heard someone say ‘oh, no’. They looked over and they saw two young ladies sitting not too far away; one had dark brown hair and the other was blonde, they were watching as another blonde and her two little girls were trying to get away from the ducks that were chasing them for some of their lunch. “I guess the ducks are ready for lunch too.” Tohru said giggling as the ducks retreated back to the water. When they finished their lunch Tohru packed everything back in the basket and they began walking through the Zoo. “I want to go look at the Lions, the Tigers and all the other big cats.” Tohru said looking at her map to see where they were. “I want to go see the reptiles.” Ayame said. “You just want to see all the other snakes.” Yuki said with an annoyed tone. “Of course I do!” “I think I’d like to go look at the polar bears. Besides, they‘re right there.” Hatori said pointing to the cave-like area where they could clearly see the glass windows looking into the polar bear’s water tanks. “I want go look the hyenas.” Shigure said. “But, Shigure there aren’t any.” Tohru said. “Um… Dingoes?” Shigure asked. “No, I’m sorry. There aren’t any of those either.” “Wolves?” “I saw a sign that said they’re off display right now.” Yuki said. “What about the foxes?” Hatori asked. “No, those are more closely related to cats I think.” Shigure said dejectedly. “I’m sorry Shigure; there just aren’t any wild dogs here right now.” Tohru said. “Hey, what about the prairie dogs?” Kyo asked jokingly. “Prairie dogs aren’t dogs of any kind Kyo, they’re rodents, like rats and guinea pigs. No offense Yuki.” Shigure said. “None taken.” Yuki said with a sigh. After much discussion they finally decided to go look at the seals, sea lions and polar bears first and go from there. Soon they had seen all the big cats and found themselves looking at the prairie dogs. “Awww, they’re soooo cute!” Tohru squealed. “Yes they are adorable aren’t they?” Yuki agreed. They moved on to the next exhibit and soon they were by the wart hogs. “Oh, look! There’s Kagura.” Shigure said looking at the hogs. “What? Where? Where is she?!” Kyo whirled around looking from side to side to see where Kagura was. Shigure, Ayame and Yuki began to laugh as Tohru and Hatori explained that Shigure was referring to the wart hogs. “Very funny mutt.” Kyo said, giving Shigure a dirty look. “What? What did I do Kyo? Why are you looking at me like that?” Shigure asked in a whiny voice. “Oh lucky Kyo, Guré didn’t mean to trick you, you tricked yourself by not paying attention.” Ayame said coming to Shigure’s defense. “Sure he didn’t. And don‘t call me that!” Kyo griped. “Don’t blame Shigure because you were too stupid to notice the wild pigs before jumping to a conclusion.” Yuki said Before long they found themselves back the duck and picnic area. “Can we go look at the reptiles now?” Ayame whined. “Fine, you and I will go to the reptile exhibit Ayame; Shigure, can I trust you not to cause any trouble while we’re gone?” Hatori looked at Shigure. “Of course you can Hari! I will watch over the children till you get back.” Shigure said motioning to Kyo, Yuki and Tohru. “We’re not children you idiot.” Kyo snapped at Shigure. Hatori sighed as he and Ayame left. Chapter IV: The end of the adventure While they waited for Hatori and Ayame everyone sat down in the grass and watched the ducks. Tohru had found a dispenser that held little pellets for feeding the ducks inside it, so she got some food and started to feed the ducks. “These ducks sure like the food.” She said tossing the pellets and watching the ducks chase after them. “I’m really ready to go home now.” Kyo griped, as cats began to gather around him. “Get lost! Go away! Scram!” Kyo yelled and chase the cats away. “Let’s be grateful he’s not a lion or something.” Yuki said. “Tohru, can I some of those pellets? I want to feed the ducks too.” Shigure asked, sticking out his hand. Tohru gave him some pellets and Shigure tossed them out to the ducks. They stood there, feeding and watching the ducks for several moments until Shigure noticed something. “Oh, hey! It’s Kagura!” He exclaimed. Kyo leaned against a tree and looked away. “Yeah right, I’m not falling for that again.” He said with an annoyed tone. “Kyo!!!!!!!!! Oh, Kyo!!!!!!!” Kyo whirled around when he heard his name and then out of nowhere GLOMP! Kagura grabbed him. “Get off of me would ya!” He snapped trying to pry Kagura off of him. “Kagura, What are you doing here? I thought you said you couldn’t come.” Tohru asked. “I came with some of my classmates.” She said as she squeezed Kyo. “Shouldn’t you get back to them then?” Kyo asked, still trying to free himself from her vice grip. “Yeah, I guess you’re right Kyo-Kyo. Okay then, I’ll see you later.” Kagura said as let go of Kyo. “It was nice to see you Kagura.” Yuki said. “Goodbye Kagura. We’ll see you!” Shigure said, waving to her as she walked away. “You guys are no help at all.” Kyo grumbled. “I wonder where Aya and Hari are, they’ve been gone an awfully long time.” Shigure said worriedly. “Maybe a snake escaped and bit my brother.” Yuki suggested. “Oh, poor Aya!” Shigure lamented. “I’m sure they’re fine, don’t worry.” Tohru tried to calm Shigure down. “Yes, you’re right Tohru. Aya and Hari are fine.” Shigure agreed. “You’re such an idiot.” Kyo muttered. Suddenly they noticed Hatori walking toward them pulling a Zoo kiddy wagon behind him. As he got closer they saw Ayame passed out on the wagon. “Hari! What happed to Aya?” Shigure asked, looking as his serpentine cousin sprawled out on the wagon. “He passed out in the exhibit. Lucky for me I found this Zoo wagon just sitting there, so as you can see, I dragged him here with it.” Hatori explained with an exasperated and annoyed tone in his voice. “Oh, brother.” Kyo muttered. Yuki just sighed and shook his head silently. “Is he okay?” Tohru asked in concern. “Yes, he’s fine. Just out cold.” Hatori said. “Aya! Aya speak to me!” Shigure tried to wake Ayame. Ayame began to stir, then opened his eyes and sat up. “Oh Guré, It was awful, just awful!” Ayame wailed. “What Aya, what was it? What happened?” Shigure asked in concern. “There was a display that had… S-snakeskin purses, belts, even a pair of boots!” Ayame said as he fell back into the wagon dramatically. “Oh Aya it’s okay, you’re safe now.” Shigure said empathically as he hugged Ayame. “Oh good grief. You’re pathetic.” Yuki said exasperatedly.“Snakeskin? You passed out cause you saw snakeskin? How stupid! Don’t snakes shed skin all the time?” Kyo asked, as though unable to believe what Ayame had just said. “Well, I guess it’s kind of understandable, I mean, if I were a snake I wouldn’t like the thought of being turned into a purse or something either.” Tohru said in Ayame’s defense. Kyo and Yuki both just sighed. After that they decided to call it a day. Besides it was almost time for the Zoo to close so they all went back to Shigure’s house where Tohru fixed a delicious dinner for them. The End |
