Free verse about a metaphorical haggis |
Looking at my life at times, is not unlike examining what makes up a haggis, Made up of parts that many would discard, reject or be appalled at Some less than desirable, a lot that do not sound appealing, Nonetheless they are full of nutrition, spice and some goodness Guaranteed to cause bloating in some, indigestion in others These less than desirable parts have made up a life that is good in essence Strong in character, bold at times in flavor, undeniably not for everyone These less than desirable parts that to some, would be nothing more than garbage Have in fact added substance and flavor to the haggis that is my life I assume that one has to be a fan of the haggis to understand and appreciate it The beauty of the haggis that is my life is that I like it and all of its flavors You may look at it in horror and disgust and wonder how it could be loved Taste the haggis that is my life in my writings, perhaps you will grow to like it These writings are the morsels of my experience all sewn in the stomach of life Perhaps you will be repulsed by the ingredients, just take a taste is all I ask The haggis that is my life is built from equal parts of introspection and reflection Pain and suffering are have been added like pungent onions that are cooked to sweetness so light The spices that made of loneliness and fear are added to bring excitement to the dish The haggis that is my life may not appeal to you, you may be turned by its odor or appearance Alas, you can never say that I have never offered you a taste of the haggis that makes up my life If the haggis that is my life pleases you, you may want to share it with others. If the haggis that is my life repulses you you may want to invite someone you don't like. It has been the haggis of the lives of many others that has nourished me and I am blessed. If the haggis that is my life nourishes you, then I am doubly blessed. |
