Fears of the Heart(Chapter 3)

"Who are you?"



"My name is Patton Edwards." He gave a low bow.



    Fallon's face was emotionless. It felt like fire was coursing through her body. The



only movement was her mouth as she slowly inhaled and exhaled.



"I thank you for your aide, but it was in vain. I won't be alive for much longer."



"What is your name?"



"Fallon." Patton was quiet for a long moment.



"I can heal you, but it will frighten you."



"Tell me how first."



"I can take you blood and analyze what type of poison was used then force it through your pores."



"Take my blood?"



"Meaning ingest it."



"You're a vampire?"



"Only half." Fallon looked at him. Studied his face. Her mind racing. Half vampire?



"How is that possible?"



"My mother was Elven. My father was a vampire."



"I was unaware that it was possible."



"Anything is possible. Will you allow me to heal you?"



      Her already pale face was beginning to grow ashen. Fallon decided she had nothing left to lose. This man would either heal her or kill her. She gave a weak nod.



The burning had become almost more than she could handle. Patton took her gently into his arms.



"Don't be nervous mi'lady. I will not harm you."



    Fallon jumped as his lips touched her neck. Her pulse was beating franticly. Whether from nerves or poison, he could not tell. As he ingested her toxic blood, he began to analyze the type of poison



used. He was not familiar with this type of poison. He then began to force the deadly liquid from his body. He noticed Fallon was splumped lifeless in his arms. He closed the tiny pinpricks, and layed her in the bed,



covering her with the blanket.



    As he closed the door he heard a noise. He rolled his eyes and made his way into his library.



"Don't even try it Gabriel. I am not in the mood." He looked at his brother.



"How'd you know?" Patton shook his head.



"I have no energy for this." Gabriel caught the sent of poison and looked sharply at his twin.



"Who was poisoned?"



"That does not matter. They have invented a new poison, Gabriel. This one would work on any of our family. Including Parker. The one who was poisoned was, no doubt, a message to any being not of the pure races."



"Who do you think is behind it?"



"Katrina."



"Don't start that bullshit again, Patton."



"She doesn't love you, Gabriel. She's just using you. You can't be so blind."



"She does love me. You are just jealous."



"Over that whore?"



"She is not a whore!"



"Even Parker and Jade see it, Gabriel."



"You can't stand that I am happy and you are not."



"No I can't stand that she is running around behind your back and you are to stupid to see it."



"You can't possibly know that."



"Open your senses and you'll know it to."



"I love her. I am marrying her."



"I will not be there." Gabriel let out a wolf-like snarl.



"You are my brother, Patton, my twin. You are supposed to support me."



"I will not stand-by and watch you ruin your life, Gabriel! You are supposed to be the smart one. I wonder if you even have a brain sometimes."



"If you will not support me then you are against me." Gabriel turns and jumps out the window, shifting into a large eagle.



'I will not be here if you return, brother' The voice echoed in Gabriel's head.



'I will not return'  The reply was faint, as Gabriel put more distance between them.



    Patton knew Gabriel would return eventually. He gathered a few belongings and got Fallon and left the city that had been his home.
