The Thief

The girl crept through the dark. She kept one ear on the door and breathed quick, stuffing her backpack with things she thought would go unmissed. Fingers paused over a photograph – a young, clean family. Happy. Respectable. She slipped it into dirty jeans and climbed back out the window, onto the fire escape, and away.
