The month of December brings holiday cheer,
Anticipation of the new coming year,
The lights and ensembles are brilliant sights,
Gleaming glowing and flashing ever so bright,
The carols that play and get stuck in our head,
Excited young children reluctant for bed,
Thoughtful gifts and extravagant dinners,
Dreamy hopes and plans to avoid being sinners,
Rushing and pushing in unruly crowds,
The stores and the malls so bitterly loud,
On cold winter evenings the fireplaces roar,
Serving hot chocolate and egg nog and marshmallow smores,
Sharing fond memories of christmases past,
Recalling the days that ended so fast,
At last the day we keenly all wait on,
Comes to our present and then it is gone,
The new year awaits a couple more days,
A change we will make so all of say,
When it arrives we claim to feel different,
Ignoring the part about being persistent,
Forgotten are the joy promises and plans,
Until the next year again remembering we can.
