I am always afraid –
Of change, of loss,
Of love, of life …
I fight against it furiously
Attempt upon attempt
To force fear into submission.
Harder the battle becomes,
Fear tightens its grasp.
The enemy of life desperately clinging
To his sly smirk of victory,
Or so he believes.
Fear uses ourselves, perceived failures
Past and present
To maintain control, an upper hand,
Preying upon our very strengths,
Love, compassion, concern.
Wait! Step back from the fight.
For it belongs not to me.
I shall not rebuke, but totally release.
For it is only in that moment
When grace is granted,
And our fear disappears,
For His ultimate gift bestowed –
Peace!
