I’ve come to know the time by her pain
It’s four O’three and she’s up again
I am so tired I just fall asleep
Her place near me I will patiently keep
When I feel the weight of her body press the bed
I will lift the covers and welcome her head
To press my chest and gladly bear
Her magnetized body against mine is there
I comfort her by placing her small hand
Precisely into my own larger span
She knows that I will always be here
To welcome her back and ease her fear
These moments so rare and short
I appreciate every breath, every thought
She’s up again and I can hear her prayer
Praying for endurance and courage to bear
What this life has woven in its delivery
Then, she prays for me!

After a very long and difficult illness, I sensed these are the sentiments my husband may have had about me.
