Four teenage girls, on a road trip, what could possibly go wrong? |
Chapter One: Road trip anyone? Katie’s POV I sighed, as we stood waiting for our friend to arrive. “How long did Jo say she was going to be?” Michelle asked as she looked around moodily. Ruby rolled her eyes at her friends impatience, smiling slightly. “She’ll be here, Just be patient” she answered. Jo, Michelle and Ruby had been best friends, sisters from high school. Jo and Ruby were the oldest, they were 19, then came Michelle who was 17, 15, they had been inseparable ever since the day they met. Then along came me ( I’m 15) I literally stumbled into their lives. Then they found out that in fact I was in most of their classes. I was just finishing high school, currently in year 10. They were all out and refused to let me forget. Although they did come in handy when it came to assignments and stuff. We had now known each other for three years, and today we left for a road trip. Oh the opitomy of fun. It sucked, seeing as I was the youngest, and couldn’t drive Jo got to drive, which meant we had to listen to her singing off key. I sighed unhappily. “About bloody time!” Ruby yelled. I looked up to see Jo’s car pulling up to the house. “I told you I had to get gas!” she yelled back. Michelle giggled quietly and Jo glared. I shook my head and threw my bag into the back of Jo’s Black dodge Ute and jumped into the front seat. “I call shot gun!” I yelled and Ruby hit Michelle. “Look what you did. The emo called shot gun!” Ruby turned and put her bag with mine then crawled into the backseat on my side and shut the door. Michelle growled and did the same. We pulled out of the driveway and drove off. An hour later we had enough. “Are we there yet?” Michelle asked yet again. “Michelle if you ask that one more time I’m going to shove my foot up your- WHOA!” I yelled. My phone vibrated. I slid it open and found a text from my boyfriend. “Hey Kat how are you?? I swear that if they give you any trouble I will follow you down to Melbourne and back Just to kill them!! Love always Edward” We all had boyfriends, mine, Edward was 17 as well, we had been together since high school. Jo had Dean, he was 20, she liked older guys, Ruby had Aden he was 19 as well, and Michelle had Lee, he was 18, one year older then Michelle but still a perfect match. I grinned and Michelle having read the text over my shoulder fake choked. “Oh screw you!” I smacked her head and she pulled away quickly. I giggled as she held her hand to her head moaning in pain. She swiped at me and I pulled away. Ruby kicked Michelle and High fived me. “Ow stop hitting.” “Its your fault!” “You shouldn’t have read over my shoulder” Jo glared at us through the review mirror. “Don’t make me come back there!” we all shut up quickly and turned around to face the front. “The next one to annoy me is walking!” she growled. I smirked. Jo could be scary when she needed to be. We all knew not to mess with her. Although Michelle sometimes forgot for a second and paid the price. Michelle glanced at me quickly. “I totally won that fight” she said quietly although not quiet enough. “THAT’S IT!!” Jo screeched. She abruptly pulled the car to a stop, Causing us all to lurch forward in our seats. “Get out” she growled, turning to look at Michelle. She pointed to the door and opened it for her. “Get out!” She screamed. I smirked. Michelle thought she was serious, the look on her face was priceless. I frowned at Jo. “Jo, honey, I understand why your annoyed but you can’t just throw Michelle out of the car” I whispered, Trying to mediate the situation. “Why the hell not?” Jo growled glaring at Michelle. “Because. Then we would have Lee to deal with!!” Jo glanced briefly at me. I could tell she was considering this. She shot one more glare at Michelle and rolled her eyes. “I have a back up idea!!” I offered. The rest of the trip was incredibly quiet. Michelle was grumbling the rest of the way. We had put masking tape over her mouth. It was sunset. We had reached half way and we pulled into a trailer park. We talked to the manager and he let us in cheap because the sight of Michelle made him laugh. Jo set up the tent while the rest of them stumbled around it in the pitch black darkness. “Where does this pole go?” Michelle yelled. I sighed and watched wincing every now and then. “Ouch, watch where your pointing that thing you almost got me in the eye!” Ruby yelled. I couldn’t help but giggle. Michelle stared guiltily at her “Sorry” she answered. I looked over at Jo who had finished her side of the tent and was standing back admiring her work. Frowning. She looked up and noticed me staring. She grinned and gestured for me to come over. I nodded. Hopping down from the safety of the bonnet of the Ute I skipped over to her. She looked smug as she gestured at her handy work. I smiled. She’d done quite a good job. I gave her the thumbs up and skipped over to see what the others were doing. Finally we or well they got the tent all set up. It was a six person. We all could fit fine. And set up our beds for the night. When I was done I crawled outside of the tent and sat down on a log. Jo came out and sat down beside me. “Hey, I’m going to find the super market and grab something for breakfast tomorrow. I was thinking Macca’s for dinner, it‘s quick and easy and none of us really feel like cooking, And I don‘t think it‘s really safe to let Michelle into the kitchen anyway” I nodded. “You want to come with?” she asked. I looked over at the tent where the other girls were setting up their sleeping bags for the night, then looked back at Jo. “Sure, why not” I answered standing up. She followed cue and went back inside the tent to tell the other girls. A few minutes later she reappeared with a bit of white paper in her hand. She caught my glance and smirked. “A list. Of what everyone wants” she explained. “oh” I replied, And followed her over to the Ute. Sliding into the front seat I waited while she started up the car. We backed out and drove down the street. Looking for the nearest super market. Finally we spotted a Coles and pulled into the car park. Jo looked at me she asked. I shrugged . She nodded and got out. I followed. Entering Coles, we grabbed a trolley and went into the first aisle. I looked at Jo. “What exactly are we looking for?” I asked. She shrugged. “We can use the main kitchen to make breakfast tomorrow” she answered. Grabbing a loaf of bread from the shelf and placing it in the trolley. “ we want quick and easy for breakfast tomorrow. I want to get away early, get a full days drive in” She said as she picked a jar of vegemite from the shelf and put that in the trolley as well. “we’ll grab a morning coffee at McDonalds on the way through town” she said. Grabbing some butter. I raised an eyebrow. “How are you going to keep that cold?” I asked. She shrugged. “I brought an esky” She explained. I nodded “that could work” I said as she placed it in the trolley. Taking back out to the Ute we unloaded it and headed for the nearest Macca’s. Spotting one Jo pulled into the drive thru, She then turned to me. “What do you want?“ she asked. I shrugged. “Big mac will do” I answered. She nodded and then turned back to the speaker box to order. About 15 minutes later we arrived back at the park. Unloaded the groceries and ate dinner. Jo then made us call it an early night. Mainly because she had to drive tomorrow and so did Ruby and she didn’t want to be tired. Tomorrow was going to be another very long day. Michelle’s POV. Laying snuggled in my sleeping bag, I suddenly felt something poke my left leg. I shook it and the poking stopped. A few minutes later it started again. This time I reached down into the sleeping bag to find out what it was. Only to find it was outside not in. That was a relief. My eyes still closed I removed my arm from inside the sleeping bag and felt around for whatever had awoke me from my slumber. Only to come up empty handed. I groaned. A few seconds later it started again. ‘what the hell is that’ I thought. Opening one eye I glanced sleepily at where my leg was. To find my friend Katie kneeling next to me, a bright smile on her face. “Good morning” she said cheerfully. I groaned and closed my eyes pulling the sleeping bag up over my head. She laughed. “Come on, time to wake up” she said. In an irritatingly happy voice. It wasn’t natural for anyone to be that cheerful this early in the morning. I groaned again. But didn’t move. She poked me in the leg again. Making me sit up. “Fine” I grumbled “I’m up, happy now?” I asked. She nodded enthusiastically. “ecstatic” she stated before skipping, yes skipping out of the tent. I shook my head, that girl had to be on something. Removing myself from my sleeping bag I stood up and stretched. Surely no one else was awake yet.. Jo can’t have meant this early right? I pulled my phone out of my bag to check the time. It was 7:30am. Hmm not to early I suppose. Quickly changing I walked over to the shared kitchen. Finding Jo, Katie and Ruby sitting down. Jo reading a map, coffee cup in hand. “Glad you could grace us with your presence” she said without looking up. I smiled. “No coffee maker your going to have to deal with instant” she explained. I nodded and poured myself a cup. And sat down next to Ruby. “How long have you guys been up?” I asked. Jo glanced at me and then back down at the map. “Since 6am” she answered. “ I said I wanted to get a full days drive in. And if you had gone to bed like I suggested instead of staying up reading you would have been up at the same time” she continued. Taking a sip of coffee in between. She downed the rest of her coffee in one gulp and got up. Walking over she washed the cup out and put it in the sink then came back to us. “I’m going to go and check the car make sure everything is ok” I nodded and took a sip from my coffee. Watching as she left the room, I then turned to Katie. “Why did you wake me up?” I asked. Taking another sip from my coffee. She shrugged. “Jo told me too” she answered simply. I raised an eyebrow. “Did she tell you to poke me?” I asked. Katie smirked. “Nope, but she did say use whatever means necessary” she stated with a big smile. I couldn’t help but smile back. |
