The rushing thoughts of a girl while waiting for her man's phone call
My heart flutters when the phone rings,
I smile as it sings
That all too familiar song that we once shared,
Back when he cared
About our happiness together,
Forever.
The name on the screen
Flashes in a bright green,
But it is not his name,
It is the boy's name
Who lives down the hall
And would never forget to call.
I press the red button
And waited till I would be happy to press the green button.
It is passed eleven,
And I have been waiting since seven
To hear his voice
And rejoice
That he had remembered me,
That he remembered to call me.

For once in his life he should,
If he could,
Think of someone,
Anyone!
Before himself
And stop being self-
Ish!
Don't you ever wish?
Wish that he could use his brain?
And then he could refrain
From bringing you all that pain.
All that pain
And all those tears
That confirm your deepest fears
That you are not enough,
That you don't have the stuff
That he wants
To flaunt
When he is with his best friends,
Or his family that tends
To influence his every thought,
But even when he is caught
They are on his side
While you sit by yourself for the ride.

If he saw the pain in my face...
Do you think it would erase
Any feeling he had for her?
Any attraction or thought he had about her?
If he swore his love and devotion to me
Would it be enough for me
To forgive every time he left me to wait?
Every time he was late
For our date
That introduced the hate?
Would it be enough to forget
The time he bet
He could get that girl's number
On our outing in December?
How many wrongs can his apology cover?
Will I be able to keep him as my lover?

My stomach flips
As the phone rings and I lick my lips,
His name flashes,
My heart and brain clashes
To the tune
That used to shoot me to the moon,
My heart
Won the battle to start
The conversation
That would lead to my elation
With the low voiced man
That used to be my number one fan,
All feelings of anger and jealousy
Disappear as he says he loves me.
