"See you in September,"
was written by your picture
in the Juniors’ section
of my High School Yearbook.
Those words,
now thoughts
scribbled on the front side
of used, posted envelopes.
"Don't ever stop being you,"
was not impossible to do in 1989.
Post high school life would be fine.
After 15 summers gone by, “see you in September,”
was simple, complete, life.
Time just moved on,
leaving me wishes
to remember you by.
Sometimes when I look upon Septembers since,
like boxed photos found on dusty closet shelves,
I do not recognize the words or feelings.
I close the book firmly on your memory.
