A story of a girl in a city and how it brought her downfall.
The city

This is an epic ditty,
About the struggle and woe,
Of life in the city,
In the constant glow.

She was young clean and clear,
She was fun-loving and sober,
Her mind was empty and heart sincere,
Then it happened mid October.

Friends plotted her demise,
Taking her out on the town,
And she met his eyes,
Wasn’t long before they lay down.

They were an odd pair,
He was cold and calculating,
Her head full of air,
This started aggravating.

She would do anything for him,
But he drew a short line for her,
She stayed when it turned grim,
When his life was a constant blur.

She stopped having fun,
When she saw the drugs,
When she saw the gun,
When she met the thugs.

But she was loyal,
She would do what he said,
He was treated like he was royal,
His words got into her head.

Now she has a belt round her arm,
He was cooking the spoon,
She went numb and calm,
Laying back staring at the moon.

Now she is reeling and kneeling,
Gagging for more,
To stop this feeling,
He goes out to score.

One night he got greedy,
And two became one,
His body found somewhere seedy,
And then he was gone.

She heard he OD'd,
This made her sick to think,
That she was carrying his seed,
So she abused it with the drink.

Now she’s on the game you never win,
Corset and stockings under the clear night sky,
Helping scummy men commit sin,
She will do anything to get high.

But after many years of pain,
The good girl had been gone for awhile,
Now begged men in the rain,
She was now totally vile.

Wasn’t long before she went the way,
Of love a forgotten love lost,
She got greedy on her final day,
And paid the ultimate cost.

So the city is a dark place,
Filled with the screams of the forlorn,
Don’t be fooled by its alluring face,
It is a pretty rose with a deadly thorn.
