With a complacency that only
man can produce, we set about building
an empire
of steel and concrete.
An empire of towering skyscrapers, piercing
the heavens like the Tower of Babel
reaching out to God for His blessings,
burying beneath ourselves the bones of ancient peoples
and of unfavorable history.
And yet beyond the walls of our eyes is a world that we can not see.
A world of beautiful ashes,
of smiling hoboes and
rich beggars.
Where the few
among us who grasp for knowledge know the truth and despair. The truth
that we are slaves.
In a land of gasping dust our bones crumble
and our skin cracks like the hard
sand of a dessert floor
under the
cold suns of desire.
