Embers of the Day

Embers of the day
begin to fade away.
They cast their dying light
on what was never right.

The fire has gone out,
so we must live without.
It does no good to cry
for embers as they die.

Now our world starts to crash
as embers cool to ash,
and we give up the fight
as day fades into night.

Although we both have tried,
it cannot be denied:
our love is cold and gray
like embers of the day.
