DO ANGELS SMILE?

DO ANGELS SMILE?

I hear the flutter of angel wings in my dream,
I hear the music, the sound soft and serene.
I see the golden halo and a swirling of white
so brilliantly glowing in Heaven's great light.

An angel stood beside me, starting to weep,
I didn't know angels cry, disturbing my sleep.
My thoughts ran rampant, at least for awhile,
and I thought to myself "Do angels smile?"

In my dream-like state, I questioned just why
the angel had come and why should she cry.
It must be tragic, if her message was clear,
but this was an angel, so what could I fear?

In the morning, all memory of the dream gone,
I felt refreshed and happy, bursting with song.
Driving to work and looking forward to the day
I didn't see the truck that was headed my way.

The crash was sudden, the heat was so intense
as my car caught fire, it didn't make any sense.
This shouldn't be happening, I was too young
and to a bright vision of life I still tightly clung.

Many hours later, I woke up in a hospital bed,
bandages covered both my arms and my head.
In and out of consciousness, I soon was aware
of a nurse standing beside me with golden hair.

She looked at me and smiled, and I saw a glow
around her that reminded me I ought to know
that I had seen this angel last night in a dream
but now she was smiling, what could it mean?

"It is over" and I heard the melody of her voice
"There will be time for healing, you can rejoice!"
Perhaps I just imagined the smile and the sigh
but I believe angels DO smile, some even cry.
