Fight to the last man
You would’ve probably heard it from anywhere, the sound of the army advancing towards our keep. The men were all scared, you could see it in their eyes, they were all told to fight to the last man, I knew in my heart that this was suicide, an army of men numbered at about a thousand men at total against the army of orcs numbered at tens of thousands. They came to a standstill some couple of hundred metres in front of the keep and their leader wailed in the air and the orcs responded by hammering their spears and other weapons on the ground. The ground shook and the thunderous roars of all the orcs filled the night air. Just after they had finished a thunder bolt flashed and lit up the whole sky a starry white colour, then came the cold trickle of rain pattering against our armour. Now the orcs were so close you could smell the foulness of their breath and see their yellow jutted teeth ready to feast on our skin. Then the loudest bellow came from the leader and the orcs started to charge. “Time to fight to the last man” I muttered under my breath.
