Polly want... caviar? |
Early Birds "Clairesse, get over here! It is time...." I groaned, looking up at Victoria, my over-eager sister. "Time for what?" Victoria blinked sharply, as if surprised by my question. "The early bird sale at Hawthorne's, of course!" "Vicky, it is four in the morning--" "That's when they open! Duh!" I rolled over, stretched, and sat up. I didn't particularly want to go to Hawthorne's at this hour, but if I knew my sister, I wasn't getting out of it. I fingercombed my hair, threw on some jeans under my night shift, and stood, ready to leave. "You're wearing that?" she asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow. "Well, yeah, it's four in the morning nobody cares." "Fine, whatever." With a supremely practiced roll of her eyes, my sister pranced out of the house, a bunny-slippered me in tow. A few hours later, just as the sun was coming o'er the horizon, Victoria and I were checking out of the shop, multi-colored birds following us all the way. "So we didn't have to wake up early after all", I moaned, a parrot nesting in my hair. "Yes, but we did get all those worms for free!" (194 words) Written by: Jewell A Pentagram |
