Men: The Feeling of Being Violated May Add Time to Your Life

Prostate cancer screenings are vital to living longer and healthier. Detecting the cancer as soon as possible increases your chance of survival. Know the signs and symptoms so you don't ignore them or wait too long. If you have blood in your urine or semen you need to consult your doctor. Your race, age and family history are all factors and may put you at higher risk.

If the cancer is caught in its earliest stage you may not have any type of symptoms. But if your frequently urinating especially at night, difficulty starting to urinate or holding back urine, weak or break in urination flow, pain or burning during urination, difficulty having an erection, blood in your urine or semen, painful ejaculation or frequent pain or stiffness in your lower back, hips and upper thighs. Some of these symptoms could be a serious problem and not only may be prostate cancer. Any one of these symptoms are enough to go to the doctor no matter what your age is.

Having too much or frequent blood in the urine or semen is not healthy. You may lose too much blood and become anemic. Or even worse you may need to receive a pint or two of blood through a transfusion. My grandpa bleeds during urination and frequently is low on blood and requires him to receive 2 pints of blood about every four months. It has also caused him to become anemic as well. If your religion such as a Jehovah witness doesn't allow you to receive blood transfusions, you may be cutting your life even shorter due to the lack of blood and your body can't produce as much as you're losing. So don't think it's not a big deal or that your not bleeding a lot or it's not important becasue it could cause you your life.

Your race puts you at higher risk. African American men are at higher risk than any other race. Asian, Indian and Alaska native men have even a less chance of getting prostate cancer. If your over the age of 65 this is usually the age when men start to get prostate cancer. And usually not before 45. Knowing your family history could also play a role. One in six men get prostate cancer. Non-smoking men are more likely to develope prostate cancer than colon, bladder, melanoma, lymphoma and kidney cancer combined. Men are 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a women is to be diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2009, more than 192,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from prostate cancer. Currently it is estimated that more than 2 million American men are currently living with prostate cancer. But remember you may have several risk factors to raise your chance of possibily having or developing prostate cancer.

Know the facts, risk and symptoms. Understand catching the cancer as soon as possible so that your more likely to remain disease free after treatment. There is several medications to help "cure" prostate cancer. About 90% of all prostate cancers are detected in the local and regional stages and the cure rate is high. Nearly 100% of men diagnosed at this stage will be disease free after 5 years with treatment. Don't feel ashamed because you may have to have a rectal examination or cystoscopy. Or even as simple as a MRI, CAT scan or blood test. All men should be checked no matter what race, your age or family history. All men should be tested to avoid serious health issues or even death.
