Started from the words "flashing lights".
Walking down the street,
Listening to the natural beat.
Of late night drivers wandering home,
From wherever they decided to roam.

A staggered stream of cars zoom by,
And the sight makes me draw a long sigh.
I wish I had a place to go,
I had a place I called home, but that was a long time ago.

In a time I can barely remember,
Other than at the time I left it was September.
Still summery weather
And the air felt as light as a feather.

Everyone was in the backyard happy and smiling
Until there was panic and with the help of someone the phone started dialing.
“9-1-1 how may I help you?”
“It’s my baby girl, she’s turning blue!?!?!”

“Stay on the line, help is on the way.”
My life fell apart that day.
My little sister was playing by the poolside,
She fell in, couldn’t swim, and died.

I was supposed to be watching her,
Now, it’s all a blur.
All I can remember is those bright flashing lights that turn darkness to light,
Shattering the darkness of night.
