My friend

Denial was a roommate of mine
We went everywhere together
My homework and her stories
Were all that mattered then

Then Truth came to visit me
Who Denial had kept away
Truth told me everything
That Denial had kept from me

Understanding visited next
And with her came pain and grief
Tears came next as I realized
All the things I had missed

Then on my shoulder I felt a hand
And He was standing there
The friend I had abandoned
Who was still waiting for me

No condemnation in his eyes
Just sadness for me
For all the good things in my life
That He had planned for me

He had been with me
Each step I took
And every path I trod

But even still he stayed with me
And even loved me still
So I took his hand and followed him
And into His father’s road we walked.
