What would you do if they could see the lie?
What would you do if they could see the lie?

The attitude and the confidence you try to imply.

The façade of the strength and the courage you display,

When really you’re broken and lonely everyday.

What if they could see behind the laughter the lie?

Though the smile is real inside you want to cry.

Not that the moment isn’t touching to your heart

But the pain that is hidden seams to never depart.

What if every intention you’ve ever had was good

But life turns it around and it ends up not as it should.

What would you do if they could see the shame?

The shame of every intention blown and you’re to blame.

What would you do if they could see the lie?

All the resentment and anger you try to hide.

All the heartaches and hard roads you pretend are ok,

When really at times you just want to fade away.

When you act like your ok but wish you were numb

Because peace and contentment never seem to come.

The heartache you live with for the ones you so love

Because you know you’ve disappointed and to them feel unworthy of.

What if they could see the lie?

For those in your heart you would certainly die.

You would sacrifice every ounce of your being for them.

And inside your own heart it’s you who is condemned.

What happened to the dreams and inspirations you once held?

They’re still there but you feel you have failed.

You’re not weak enough to give in to life’s defeats.

But it takes a toll on your soul and hope depletes.

What if they could see past the shield?

When deep down inside you just want to be healed.

You abhor shallow judgments but have taken quite a few.

But the person you are and your heart no one knew.

Strangers will never know the true pain that you hide.

And that day after day to God you confide.

Those who are closer think they understand,

But if only they knew the true heartache you withstand.

So you keep going on every day

Believing that eventually you will find a way

To heal the broken pieces of your life torn apart

And heartache and sorrow will eventually depart.

How long will you cry yourself to sleep or hide back the tears

Of all the pain built up for so many years?

You’ll stand up and grin and go on your way

Because those you love are what keep you going every day.

So put on that smile and suck up those tears.

Stand up and stand proud and hide all the fears.

You’re not going to give in and you’re not ready to die.

But what would you do if they could see the lie?
