Isabella was raised human but who is she really? Who are her parents?
                Prologue

Pain, excruciating pain.  Screaming, blood-curdling screams.  Fear almost too much to bear.  Hour after hour, all through the night.  With the moon as witness, the end finally came.  They were finally able to look upon the cause of all the emotional distress.
However, their gazes were not of anger or fear but of joy and love directed at the pink squirming bundle in her arms.  Their eyes glowed with love for one another.  He loved her even more for her going through all the pain and various emotions brought on by the extra hormones and the labor.  She loved him even more for being there when she needed him the most.
Though he was not an actual doctor, his studying for this moment paid off.  He had had no other choice for their circumstance would not allow them to go to a hospital.  He had been great when it had come time and for that she thought he was even more of a father.
The birth had not been easy but nor had they expected it to be.  They survived it and for that she smiled a silent ‘thank you’.  Their eyes connecting, the glowing rose to brightened the pitch dark room.  His glowed a subtle red as her shown a pale blue.  Both were filled with joy and gratefulness as they shared a passion-filled kiss.

She was a miracle, their child.

                Chapter 1

The cool afternoon air rushed against her  face making her pale skin flush from the cold and the excitement of the day.  The suns rays shone down onto her blonde highlighted hair giving it a reddish hue.  Her destination in sight, she rushed up the steps and opened the door.  Going into the kitchen, she dropped her book bag onto the floor and sought caffeine in the form of a diet coke from the fridge.  Then she flung herself into a chair at the table.
After a few drinks she called out, “Mooommm!”
Her mother stepped out from the living room and stood in the doorway leaning against the frame.  “You don’t have to shout.  Just because you’ve gotten older doesn’t mean I’ve lost my hearing,” she replied.  She tried to smile but her face still shown with anxiety.  But right now nothing was going to ruin Izzy’s happiness and excitement.  “So how did your rehearsal go,” asked her mom while taking a seat across the table.  Tonight Isabella would turn eighteen and go through her high school graduation.  Two big moments in a girl’s life.  What could possibly go wrong?
“Oh, it went sooo great,” she exclaimed with a huge smile.  “I can’t wait!  It’s only like four hours away!  Will dad be able to make it tonight?”
“Yes, he will dear.  He told his boss that he had to be there for you no matter what.”  As she said this Izzy noticed her smile faltered and, when it returned, it looked forced.
“Mom, is there something going on that I should know about?  You look a little worried,” she inquired.
“Not yet dear…  I don’t need you to worry on one of the best days of your life,” she replied with a little smile and slight chuckle.
“Well, okay,” answered Izzy who changed the subject to a much happier one- the ceremony.  She told her mom once again about the colors, music, where the parents were to sit, and anything else she could remember.  “Oh, I forgot to mention that I will be going to Zeke’s house to hang out afterwards.”  She stood and headed towards the hallway to go to her room.
“Are you sure honey?  It’s a big night and you’re turning eighteen.  Don’t you want to spend it with your family?”  Once again her mother looked anxious and she did not know why.  She didn’t want to ruin her night or her plans though to stay home and comfort her mom from Goddess knows what.
“Mom, you know that I love you but I have all the time in the world to spend with you and dad.  I may not have as much time to spend with Zeke though if he goes off to college.  Anyway, I already told him and a couple of my other friends that I would go and I don’t want to back out on them.”
“I suppose you’re right honey.  Why don’t you start getting ready to go?”
“Yeah, I probably should then I might be able to rest a little before we go,” said Izzy and went down the hallway to her room.

She went to her room and set about trying to pick the best birthday and graduation outfit her closet had to offer.  Her room was painted in hues of blue and purple with a black ceiling.  Her windows were covered in curtains she made with a shimmering fabric that brought together the colors of her room and was embroidered with crescent moons and stars.  She always liked the mystic feel of her room and thought it helped with inspiration.
“Well, my favorite colors are blue and purple so I might as well wear them on my important day,” she said to herself while looking in the mirror on the back of her door.  She went to the closet and found a slimming purple mini dress with a short blue denim jacket.  She then went to her dresser and found her black crop leggings.  Already exhausted she flopped down on her bed deciding to figure out which shoes to wear after a nap.  Her back satin sheets and comforter smelled of the lavender fabric softener her mom used  and soon she was off to sleep.

She woke up gasping for breath.  All she could remember was the sense of urgency, the color red, and extreme hunger.  Even now her stomach seemed clenched and was hit with spasms of sharp pains.  She sat up clutching her stomach willing the pain to go away.  Barely able to think, she could not remember the last time she had ate.  Knowing that could be the answer to her problem she hurried out of her room and into the kitchen.
When she opened the refrigerator nothing looked too pleasing.  Usually she would love a salad but the greens just did not seem right somehow.  Shutting the fridge in dismay, she decided to look in the freezer.  She caught sight of the steak just as her mother came in to investigate the noise she had been making.
“Mom, do you think you could possibly make me a steak while I finish getting ready,” she asked while trying to make her puppy-dog face.
“I suppose I could, though it doesn’t look like you’ve even started to get ready ,” her mom replied teasingly.  Before Isabella could even try a rebuttal her mom cut in.  “Do you want it done a certain way?”
“Well, now that you’ve mentioned it.  How about medium rare?”  Usually Isabella liked her steak well done, whenever she ate steak, but for some reason  medium rare just sounded good today.  However the anxious look her mom had today got worse at this request as she replied, “Are you sure, honey?”
Not liking to see her mom anxious she nodded and headed off to her room.  When she got there she put on the dress and leggings then sat down at her desk.  Her mahogany desk was hardly ever used for studying but rather for her to do her hair and makeup in front of a small stand up mirror.  She looked into the mirror and started combing her hair.  The light from her ceiling fan turned her hair golden as the tendrils fell free from the brush.  With no tangles left she spun the golden hair into a messy bun, leaving a few strays to frame her face.
Next she went on to her make-up.  She never needed foundation or powder for her skin was ivory and free of blemishes.  Instead she went for the eye shadow first.  This was always the hardest part for there are so many colors.  She decided on a light purple to contrast with the dark violet of her dress and her graduation gown.  Then she added a little mascara and a touch of dark-tinted lip-gloss.  With a nod of her head she decided to turn to her last obstacle- her shoes.  Heading over to her closet she looked down at her row of shoes.  They were mainly black except for a pair of white sandals and red pumps.  Oh, and her gym tennis shoes.  After a few moments she finely decided upon a pair of black knee-high boots with a small heel, easier to walk in than most of her choices.  Looking in her full length mirror on her door for a last time, she deciding she was ready to go.

She went to the kitchen and spotted her steak ready-to-go on the table.  She glanced around looking for her mom who was nowhere in sight.  She was probably getting ready now but Isabella could not shake the memory of her anxious smile.  Instead of dwelling on it, Isabella dug into her steak.  Usually any sight of red in meat would have made her turn away but the little bit of blood pooling out of it today caused her to become ravenous.  With this new found hunger the steak disappeared in no time.  Satisfied she sat back and found her stomach calm and the memories of her dream had faded.
Her mom soon walked into the room.  Upon seeing her daughter the anxious look came back.  Though seeing the small satisfied smile on Izzy’s face made her feel slightly better.  Maybe everything would be alright.  With this little hope she was able to put a smile on as Izzy glanced at her.
“Is Dad up yet,” she asked, excitement starting to show again.  She felt better about this night as she saw the smile on her mom’s face.  She noticed that she was also wearing her “happy” suit- navy jacket, skirt, and shoes with a salmon colored shirt.  The pinky-orange color really helped to bring out her mom’s blonde hair and gray-blue eyes and yearly tan skin.
“Yes he is up and getting ready.  Are you all set now?”
“I think so.  All I have to do is remember my purse and I will be ready to go,” she joked and watched her mom chuckle.
“Do I hear someone actually laughing,” asked her father as he crept up behind her mother making her jump and laugh even more.  She also tried to swat at him but he sidestepped easily to avoid it.  “That’s not funny,” her mom demanded.  Her father just gave an answering smile and asked, “ Are the both of you ready to go?”
Isabella looked at him and noticed that he was already set to go with a black suit, red shirt, and black dress shoes.  These colors made his night black hair and eyes seem even darker and his ivory skin lighter.  She had never noticed how pale her dad really was, even paler than her.  It’s probably from him working at night and not seeing the light of day she thought.
“Well, I think we are,” her mom replied.  “Right dear?”
“Sure.  At least if we get there early you will get good seats and I can get even more nervous,” Izzy said with a laugh.
