The Henrietta Barnett School Concert Of Carols And Poems



I have decided to go to this arts event because of my challenge in writing poetry and i thought that this would be a good event for me to go to, because it would enable me to hear other people's poems who have entered and won this year's school poetry competition to celebrate National Poetry Day.



From the event i have heard some very inspiring poems and it has made me realise that these people are so talented and although they are only students at my school, they have a great future ahead of them. The theme on Heroes and Villains was brought out very well with some familiar approaches to this type of theme and some very unexpected such as the poem 'Water isn't very pleasant...' by Nadja Popovic who described at the event through the form of poetry how water, although as harmless as it may seem, can be very unpleasant and describes many forms of this unpleasantness. The singing and composition was very well done probably due to many rehearsals which would be necessary in such an event.



The people who have performed both young poets, musicians and singers were excellent with involving and capturing the audience's attention. So i have learnt valuable performance skills in getting involved with the audience just as they did by including the audience. For example, by giving the audience lyrics to the carols so that we could sing along with them in certain parts. Overall a great professional event.
