Publishing new authors. |
Will I ever get published? Seems like new authors, like me, with no connections in the publishing industry, have a tough time being noticed. True, many of us aren't very good at it, but some are; yet finding someone who is interested enough in helping the new guy is very difficult. I started my first novel in 1982 when I finally got a dot matrix printer for my new computer (an old XT). I wrote several paragraphs over a few months, but then got stuck with my characters in a particular situation, and unable--at the time--to move along. With the pressures of a job, raising 4 children, and other things, the book languished until 2008 when I retired. Oh, I played a little with it over the years, but wasn't able to devote much time to it. But when I retired, and with my kids all gone, I re-involved myself in the book and finished it. True, it does need editing, but it's basically finished. Then I went on to write another, and am half way through my third. Still, no bites from agents or publishers, other than those who are willing to publish if I pay them to do it. Frustrating and discouraging. I don't know how many years I have left (did I mention that I'm 70?), so I would like to have some success while I still can. Thankfully, I have relatively good health, and time to work on it, so hopefully someone will take a chance on me. We'll see! I'll try to write updates often, in case anyone out there is interested. I'd be glad to hear from you. Ted |
