The Discerner: A Lovely Shade of Gray

Synopsis:

Demon hunter, Shug Gracie, is not your average demon hunter. She is a Discerner. The Gift of Discernment manifested in her at the age of thirty-three. That was sixty years ago. Along with her partner of ten years, Father Jacob O’Brien, they cover the East Coast.

When a demon shows up in her Introduction to Theology class, the sleepy little campus in the mountains of Southwest Virginia becomes a battle ground of good versus evil. Seeking information, Shug and Jake pay a visit to the Gatekeeper to discover that there is not one demon on the loose, but four and the fourth one is formidable; a demon of the Second Hierarchy.

In an attempt to turn the battle, the demons prepare for a ritual; a ritual that calls for the blood of a holy man and has the potential to send all hunters into hiding leaving the innocents unprotected. With the help of her mentor, his priest and his surly new trainee, the group devises a plan to exorcize the threat.

If the plan goes off without a hitch then innocent lives will be spared and the balance of good and evil will remain equalized. If not, Shug is about to discover that good and evil are not always black and white. Sometimes it’s a lovely shade of gray.
