... a suddenly frequent event, dies a quick death.
Something spooked me on arrival,
a quiet, foreboding enemy of survival.

I turn on the porch light ---
BANG --- a shot pierces the night.

There's a ruckus in the alley?
Chalk it up... one more to the tally.

A bullying thief is chased out of sight
by a swift, fearless neighbor --- new-found knight.

Somebody, call 9-1-1!

I re-check the security of my door,
at this moment a scary, mind-boggling chore --

A sense of duty compels me to call,
and reign of madness is quick to fall.

Terror comes to a staggering halt ---
finality found through courageous catapult.

-- -- -- -- -- --

Now looking outside, new lighting installed,
hard lesson learned by relentless default.
