Click! “Oo oo ooo! Look at my picture, isn’t it pretty?”
Cooed the amateur, as the pro eyed him with pity.
Repulsed at this ‘chimping’, he shook his head,
Imagining all the stunning pictures that might as well be shred.
The novice, young and callow, clearly did not understand,
But with experience, the master had gained the upper hand.
He knew much of photography as an art,
But also of something greater, in his life and in his heart.
Too many admire the room they just left behind,
That to the new open doors, they are utterly blind.
The beginner let the camera display hold his eye,
While the true guru didn’t let a moment pass him by.
He heeded all the new opportunities,
And each one, he made sure to seize.
The lesson here is for more than just a photojournalist,
It has significance for every single one of us.
If you allow the past occupy your thought,
You never know what glorious moments you could have caught.
