This is a short piece I wrote last year after chasing a relationship. It's all about love. |
"His eyes were awash with a blend of love, passion and confusion. A mix of emotion that would drive any man to full forced insanity. How could it be that the one true desire in his heart could make him feel so low, so small, so worthless." It's a common ache that controls the lives of so many. Everyday it curses the world, a feeling unlike any other. If it is the sole reason for existence, the main purpose in life. The one thing that every man, woman and child faces, staring them directly in the eye with no fear and no mercy. Then why does it haunt us so. Why is there no handbook, no instruction manual, no step by step structural explanation to how it works, allowing us to control it instead of it controlling us. Blowing us off course into no mans land. Keeping us awake after everything else has come to an abrupt halt. It has the power of stopping in a man in his tracks to think about the possibilities of what could be, day dreaming that someday that dream would become a reality, all of his fears drifting away into the distance as if they were never there. The harsh reality is there is no handbook, there never has been and it is almost a certainty that there never will be. How can anyone explain or instruct something that cannot be understood. There is no theory, no scientific reasoning or religious beliefs that can aid us in the direction of understanding and that is the reason it keeps up at night, tossing and turning with a continuous flow of uncontrollable thought. It strikes fear into the soul of everybody that experiences it. How could it not? An uncontrollable emotion that cannot be chosen how and when it grasps them. No menu to choose from, no option to pick again and no reset button when things go wrong. The emotion of love is a powerful force that should not be underestimated, not taken for granted. It can strike at any time. There is no cure for love, no antidote to overpower the lust from cupid's arrow that is pumped so furiously with every beat from the infected heart. But, as much as it is feared, it is welcomed. To millions of people all around the world it brings unlimited happiness, filling their lives with a purpose. Enabling them to share their experiences, their worries and doubts with the one they love, the one they believe they were destined to be with. The beat of two separate hearts coinciding as one. A perfect match. A unity of souls together for an eternity. To those people love is a blessing, a gift from god. For two people to share such an emotion, such passion and love for each other, it's truly magical. Making them feel invincible as though nothing can touch them, as though nothing else matters. They have found what some people search a lifetime for. An ongoing cry to share their happiness with someone and for the feeling to be reciprocated, which is the cruelest most terrifying part about love. Reciprocation! What do you do when the most powerful emotion causes you to fall for someone and they do not feel the same way. With no instruction manual or troubleshooter to tell you what to do next, what can you do? The further you pursue the road to unrequited love, the longer the lonely walk back becomes. Between walking there and walking back, you stop. Completely stop! The decision to keep walking or return to choose another path is a painful one. A heartbreaking floury of failure, rejection and worthlessness flows through the body of the undeserving victim of love. How can it be that something directly linked to eternal happiness and a feeling of purpose cause so much pain? Accepting rejection is the hardest dilemma that is encountered during a persons lifetime. A situation only offering two equally undesirable options. Walk away from the one you love, the one you believe is the person you have been searching for, or continue walking down the road that has no end, no happily ever after. Just continuous rejection. Is it any wonder why love is openly feared, causing trembling earthquakes of doubt thorough our minds. Terrified to commit to something that might one day destroy our life, demolishing the very foundations of our existence, making people believe they cannot fulfill the purpose of live, to find their sole mate and recreate life. To give the next generation a chance to experience love. To feel the pain or happiness that love can bring to their lives. Love will never be understood, nor will it ever be controlled, only accepted. Whether it brings pain or happiness. Embrace it, Enjoy it. There is no alternative for love, no escape from love. So be ready for it because it takes hold of us all. A creative piece by Dale Fenton. |
