The Accident

David woke up, still dizzy, when a nurse came by and smiled.

"Hey, Mister Baldwin."

"Where am I?" David's voice was faint and his throat felt sore as if he had swallowed sandpaper.

"You are in the hospital. You had a car accident. Do you remember?"

"I don't remember anything"

"That's not unusual after traumatic events. Dr. Scott will answer all of your questions."

David tried to remember. He wanted to visit his son Jeremy who had moved to his first own apartment. David was proud of him as he just bought his first own car from the money he had earned from different part time jobs. It was a used blue ford that had its right front passenger door replaced with a wrong colored one. Jeremy did not mind. "Hey dad, I hardly look at the door while I'm driving" he teased him.

He remembered that he had arrived in his street, when something must have happened.

The doctor came in: "Good morning Mister Baldwin, I see you are getting better. You got lucky. Just minor injuries".

"What happened, Doctor?"

"The paramedics brought you and an unidentified young man. It seems he crashed into your car at the intersection".

"I don't remember"

"No worries, your memory will come back. Unfortunately the other driver was not so lucky, he didn't make it".

"He crashed into my car, you said?"

David felt his memory coming back. He could see the other car in his mind, still unclear and dream-like. It was driving at full speed, like the brakes may have failed. He now remembered, it was a blue car. He tried harder to remember what happened next. All he could see in his mind now, was something he found strange: it's right front passenger door had been green.
