What if your magic chooses you instead of the other way around? |
In magic there is balance. Life, death, knowledge, passion, and balance. Within these dimensions each mage receives three attributes, either in union or conflict. Behold the beginning. A man, young man, given three attributes. Knowledge, balance, and life. The other aspects of the pattern were accessible. Passion still there, human darkness that might grow. But the attributes honed, the natural gifts.. were the three. I will find a name for this character, a backstory, and add him to my collection. I invite others, given the magic the gathering colors, or another set of elements, to combine them, contradictory or unifying, and create something unexpected, some new concoction, or dye, or pattern that will enhance the potion, fabric, or quilt. I will probably consider the other attributes, combine them using one similar element and two opposing elements to create a rival. My biggest problem in writing appears to be creating characters that aren't flat. They all seem to be aspects of myself. That's part of writing, right? But I should be able to separate myself from them enough to tell my story. So if anyone can help me with that, it would be most appreciated. As far as this character's shortcomings, the magic has its problem. He can't directly take away life, or create fireballs. He can redirect, flood, stuff like that. Alter or create life, manipulate nature, but not much chaotic stuff. Knowledge, too, I guess, so scrying, divination, stuff like that. |
